Lyric McHenry Community Arts Fellowship
A summer fellowship that funds community-based art internships and apprenticeships.
The Lyric McHenry Community Arts Fellowship offers Stanford undergraduates the opportunity to conduct research, complete a project, or apprentice with a community-based arts organization or an established community-based artist. Fellows work 35 hours per week for a minimum of 9 weeks during the summer quarter.
Projects supported by this fellowship focus on advancing the arts at the intersection of social justice.
Fellows have previously worked with: Laundromat Project, Silicon Valley African Film Festival, BLD PWR, Collective Focus Resource Hub, Arantxa Araujo, Rashaad Newsome Studios, and more.
The Lyric McHenry Community Arts Fellowship is a summer commitment that includes:
Internship Placement
(winter / spring)
Applicants must secure their own placements with artists or organizations prior to the application deadline. Fellows may work in the United States or abroad.
Host Questionnaire
(winter / spring)
Host organizations or artists are required to submit a questionnaire outlining proposed responsibilities, work requirements, and supervision agreements as part of the application process.
Summer Funding
(end of spring for summer)
Each Lyric McHenry Community Arts Fellow receives a base stipend of $7,500 to support travel and living expenses during the summer. Financial aid and supplemental funding (up to a total of $9,500) are available to students who qualify.

Program History:
This program is named and funded in honor of Lyric McHenry (Stanford ‘14). In honor of Lyric’s passion for the arts and social justice, the Lyric McHenry Community Arts Fellowship gives students the opportunity to spend a summer working full time in the areas of curating, presenting, outreach and/or arts education with a focus on racial/social justice issues.
